Studying subjects on a Single Subject basis is particularly suitable for mature students and those in employment whose time and work commitments make it impossible for them to study on anything other than a part-time or evening basis.

Certification
For each subject passed students are issued with a Single Subject Diploma. When any FOUR subjects have been completed students may apply for their awards to be converted to a Business Studies Group Certificate. When any EIGHT subjects have been completed students may apply for a Business Studies Group Diploma. An application form for the issue of a Group Certificate or Diploma may be obtained from ICM. The completed form must be accompanied by the appropriate fee.

Further Studies
Single Subject Diplomas are accepted, in place of GCSEs/GCEs and other qualifications, as Entrance Requirements for many of the Institute’s professional level programmes and also entitle the holder to subject exemptions on a subject-for-subject basis. They are therefore particularly valuable for those who wish to continue with their studies in order to obtain a recognized ICM professional level qualification.

Status of Qualifications
Business Studies Group Certificate A Craft/Technician qualification designed for entry to higher education. Business Studies Group Diploma A Higher technician/Post A-level qualification.

Suitability
Single Subject Diploma courses are suitable for both school leavers, who have reached GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level standard and those with a minimum of one years practical work experience.

Examinations
Examinations are held in March, June, September and December each year. Candidates do not have to be Registered Students Members of the Institute in order to enter for Single Subject examinations.

Results and Certificate
These are issued within twelve weeks from receipt of examination scripts.

Study Methods
The syllabus for each subject clearly defines the areas that students are required to study and the examinations are based on the areas and topics detailed in each syllabus. Each subject syllabus is linked to ONE main text book and the examiners base their question on the contents of that text. Every subject syllabus also gives details of ‘alternative Texts’ and where possible students should attempt to read one or more of the ‘Alternative Texts’ in order to broaden their knowledge of the subject area.
